If you're needing a vampire book to enjoy, I'm loving A Discovery of Witches. It features a vampire who is a) not Edward Cullen and b) not as likable as Mr. Darcy, but still plenty intriguing. More importantly, the heroine of the book is a) not Bella Swan, and b) has a head, her own life, and is a smart academic who just happens to be a witch. I'm only about 20% in, but I haven't felt this "into" a book in awhile.

With you about all those dislikes... Would like to find the fun in running since it has amazing health benefits, but just not working out. And Gardening would be fun to have veggies and herbs right at home, but too hot... Drinking and Karaoke can disappear. I do like Pinterest though, if for no reason as having all those posts has forced me to make healthier recipes I find on there, organize things that were otherwise organized and actually do some crafty things.... if for no other reason as to get rid of the quilt from using the site and not doing anything with it.... As for the wedding themed stuff... I see it and just think "Ahhh I never have to stress about that crap again!"

Kristina,

The reason you couldn't find my post on YA lit was that I accidentially posted it before it was done, so I changed the securities on it to Private until I could take the time to get back to it. As you can see, I haven't had the time to get back to it. Thanks for your input, though. :)

So for some reason I can't find your June 15th post about books on your site (I read them off Google) so I will post my comment here.... I was like you reading Anne of Green Gables and Judy Blume... then in high school a friend (ok a boyfriend, but he was a friend first) introduced me to a fantasy series called Magician... after that I was hooked on fantasy and science fiction... and still am today. Currently trying to read through all my dad's star trek books (Mike would be proud :-)) As well as other series I find in the young adult section of the library. Adult science fiction and fantasy just usually isn't as good, alothough the books by Connie Willis have been pretty interested (although those deal with more of the past than the future). Like you, I read Hunger Games and Twilight, and liked them, and read through both series super quickly, but would not consider them in my favorites list. Don't get me started on the Hollywoodization of the last Twilight books, or the predictability of the Hunger Games... Anyways my point is you can still find alot of the same ideas that drew me to Anne of Green Gables and Judy Blume in some of the better young adult series of today. I am seeing more and more series today, where you can really get to know the characters and not just the stories, you still see girls who are independent and don't necessarily follow the norms of society. You just have to look harder, and not get your "To Read" list from social media. If you find out some other series or authors she likes, I might be able to help you with suggestions for some non Hollywoodized series that she might like.

When my nephew was born, I bought a collection of classic children's books, and even though we didn't have Goodnight Moon when growing up, either, I still bought it because it's one of those things, you know? As Beck got older, he seemed to love Goodnight Moon because he could remember it and anticipate the story before he really knew words. Of course, watching him love the book made us love it, even though it's very simple with no characters, story, or verve. It's the reaction that's charming instead of the book, I think.
